In my data analysis, “Does Prejudice Affect the Understanding of Transgender Youth?” I decided to run a Pearson correlation between four chosen variables. In the initial dataset collected by my supervisor Dr. Jessica Glazier, participants were asked to estimate (in months) the ages in which they think cisgender and transgender children reach gender development milestones. I found a positive correlation between participants’ prejudice against transgender individuals - calculated using the Transgender Attitudes and Beliefs Scale - and their “composite” scores. As explained above, composite scores were calculated by subtracting the age that one indicated for cisgender children from the age that one indicated for transgender children. Essentially, I found that with higher prejudice, participants were more likely to think that transgender children reached gender development milestones at later ages than cisgender children - despite the fact that cisgender and transgender children reach gender development milestones at the same ages.
